 The Playschool at St Joseph's has been operating for a number of years and caters for children from the ages of 2 to 4 years old. It also offers parents the opportunity to gradually get their children used to being in "school" by offering either a three-day or five-day week. The day officially begins at 08:30 and ends at 12:00, but children are welcome from 07:30 to 12:30. An Aftercare facility is also available after 12:30. The Playschool is situated in the same vicinity as the Pre-primary section – an area that is completely enclosed and used only by the Playschool and Pre-primary children during school hours. This area includes two play areas, with varied equipment that ensures the development of the gross-motor and fine-motor muscles, co-ordination and balance as well as social skills. A qualified and experienced teacher plans the daily programme. The emphasis in Playschool is on learning through play and having fun. The teacher has one or two assistants, depending on the number of children registered for each day. On any given day, the children can explore the various areas in the classroom and "work" according to themes planned and guided by the teacher. They participate in Art& Craft activities, sing together, move to music are taught rhymes and read to on a regular basis. |
