![]() ART & MUSIC Art is an important part of our curriculum and is essential in the holistic development of each child. Our classes are small, allowing for more personal, individual attention. The children experience drawing, painting and three-dimensional art in a variety of media. Exploring the excitement of colour, the rhythm of pattern and the wonder of design is also worked on. Children are encouraged to develop their individual ways of interpreting and expressing their own ideas. It is a time of delving into the realm of fantasy or discovering the wonder of nature and also for developing a respect for each other and the environment. Music is one of the other important components of the holistic development of each child. Both Foundation and Intermediate Phase learners attend class music once a week. The opportunity to develop individual music talent is given in the Foundation Phase choir as well as with the private music lessons available at the school. These include the steel band, piano, recorder, clarinet, violin and guitar lessons. The annual Arts and Culture Festival and music evenings at the school provide the opportunity to showcase the musical talents of the learners. The St Joseph’s Steel Band are frequently seen playing at venues around Cape Town. |
