Code of Discipline
Junior School Code of Discipline

We believe that all SJMC Junior School children will adhere to this code:
  1. SJMC children show that they have RESPECT for THEMSELVES by dressing neatly in the correct uniform and following the rules regarding hairstyles and accessories.
  2. SJMC children treat EACH OTHER with RESPECT and should, therefore, not swear at each other, be rude, hit bully or hurt each other.
  3. SJMC children show ADULTS RESPECT by being courteous and polite. This includes greeting and standing up when adults walk past and remembering to say, "Please", "Thank you" and "Sorry" when necessary.
  4. SJMC children show RESPECT for SCHOOL PROPERTY and the BELONGINGS OF OTHERS, by not damaging, defacing or stealing things that do not belong to them.
  5. SJMC children show RESPECT for SOCIETY by obeying the law.
  6. SJMC children show RESPECT for GOD and each other’s faith by being reverent in the Chapel, during prayers and when singing hymns as well as by obeying all five statements above.

CHAMPAGNAT BADGES

The founder of the Marist Brother, St Marcellin Champagnat was a very special man. He was guided by Mother Mary at all times. She gave him the strength:
  • to have respect for everything around him
  • to persevere and keep on trying, however hard things were
  • to help those around him.
We therefore have three Champagnat badges that are awarded weekly at assembly, to three children in each class.

If a child can say "Yes, I do that!" to all these statements, they deserve a Champagnat badge for RESPECT.
I greet people cheerfully
I am polite to those around me and stand back for adults
I don’t interrupt others when they are speaking
I am kind to others and play fair
I respect myself and the world around me
I look after my belongings

"Yes, I do that!" to the following statements earn the Champagnat badge for PERSERVERANCE.

I work hard and don’t give up easily
I always try to do my best
I listen carefully and follow instructions
I try to make my work enjoyable
I try to be organised

And if it’s "Yes, I do that!" to these statements, it’s a Champagnat badge for HELPFULNESS.

I like to do jobs for others
I help without being asked
I try to notice when people are in difficulties
If I’m not able to help I try to do the sensible thing
I don’t brag about helping
