Starting at a new school: how adults help kids feel like they belong
When joining a new school, supportive adults and attentive peers assist the child with developing a sense of belonging.
Finding out their strengths and interests ahead of time, pairing them up with a class buddy and ensuring that they become familiar with the layout and ways of the school will help them to feel competent, safe and included.
The teachers check in at the end of the week to see if there are any concerns the child is facing so that these can be addressed for their comfort and so that they can love being part of their new school.
